NGaReia

Bill and Kim Cook are a husband and wife team who have been investing in real estate for more than eleven years.  In addition to being recognized as knowledgeable, experienced, and hard working real estate investors, they:

  • Founded North Georgia Homes, Inc. in 2006.  The goal of this company is to buy, sell, rent and owner-finance investment real estate.  Five experienced real estate investors own and operate North Georgia Homes, Inc.  Bill Cook is President and Purchasing Manager.  His responsibilities are to make offers and negotiate deals.  Kim Cook is Vice President, the Short Sales Manager and the Purchasing Manager.  Her responsibilities are to negotiate short sales and to make offers and negotiate deals.  Terrah Whitlock is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).  Her responsibilities are to manage the office as well as all financial affairs.  Gawain (A.J.) Thomas is Vice President of Project Management and Property Management.  His responsibilities are to oversee the rehabbing of properties and the management of rental properties.  Kim Sandell is Vice President of Marketing.  She is in charge of the company’s advertising campaign and all printed material.

Each month, North Georgia Homes, Inc. buys three to five investment properties.  The company’s goal is to quickly rehab and then either sell, wholesale, bird-dog, or owner finance the properties to buyers.

  • Believe the secret to wealth is earning passive income.  For this reason, they own and/or manage a number of rental properties.
  • Founded North Georgia Real Estate Investors Association, Inc. (North Georgia REIA) on Tuesday, January 15, 2002.  This group was formed with the goal of bringing together real estate investors to discuss the latest and best deal structuring and asset protection techniques.  Bill and Kim firmly believe that if investors help each other, each can achieve record levels of success.

North Georgia REIA has over 2,000 members with between 150 to 200 investors attending each monthly meeting.  Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Cartersville Holiday Inn at exit #293 off I-75 in Cartersville, Georgia.  Please go to www.REIoutpost.com for more information.

  • Conduct full-day real estate investing seminars on the Saturdays following North Georgia REIA’s monthly meetings.  Each seminar includes an easy to understand, in-depth manual plus all of the forms needed to do the particular deal structuring technique(s) taught at the seminar.

Bill and Kim’s real estate investing career began one morning while reading the legal section of the Cherokee County paper.  Kim said, “Look at all these foreclosure ads.  I bet we can learn how to buy some of these properties and sell them for a profit.  That guy on TV (Carleton Sheets) says folks make a lot of money doing this.”  That was 1995.

Like most people who want to get into real estate investing, Bill and Kim didn’t know where to start.  They began learning by listening to John Adams’ weekend real estate investing radio show and attending John’s seminars.  From John, Bill and Kim heard about Georgia REIA (Georgia Real Estate Investors Association).  Georgia REIA is the largest REIA in the country and a great place to learn about real estate investing.  From Georgia REIA they heard about Dyches Boddiford.  Without a doubt, Dyches Boddiford is one of the best advanced real estate investing teachers in the country.  From Dyches, Bill and Kim heard about Matt Scott’s website, dealmakerscafe.com.  Matt’s website is free and has one of the best real estate investing discussion boards in the business.  NOTE: Bill and Kim took A LOT of other real estate investing classes from A LOT of other teachers, but these were their main sources of solid, down to earth, real world information.

Bill and Kim share a deep belief that real estate investing, especially the act of buying and holding rental property, is the surest road to financial independence and wealth.  They are quick to point out that real estate investing is not a get-rich-quick scheme.  Success takes much time and a lot of determination.  Success hinges on an investor’s willingness to make A LOT of WRITTEN offers on a REGULAR basis, and the desire to continually learn new deal structuring and asset protection techniques.

Bill and Kim were not born with silver spoons in their mouths.  Before becoming real estate investors, Kim managed Headhunters Beauty Salon in Marietta, Georgia, and Bill, after working for Electrolux for 18 years, worked for Home Depot in Woodstock, Georgia.

Here is what Bill and Kim said during a recent interview:

Kim was asked, “What is the secret to becoming a successful real estate investor?”  She answered, “Success takes self-discipline, determination, the ability to think creatively, and the willingness to make a lot of written offers.”

** Bill was asked, “What is a real estate investor’s job?”  He answered, “The job of a real estate investor IS NOT to buy or sell real estate, rather it is to SOLVE PEOPLE’S REAL ESTATE PROBLEMS.”

** Bill’s quote appears in the national best seller The Millionaire Real Estate Investor by Gary Keller, founder of Keller Realty.
